Full Moon in Sagittarius

At 4:24am PST on May 26, we experienced the Super Full Moon/Flower Moon in Sagittarius as well as the first eclipse of the season.

With the Sun in Gemini and the Moon in Sagittarius, this full moon begs us to be curious, to take chances, to move through the voices of fear that keep us from giving ourselves fully to our lives, and perhaps most importantly, this Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse offers up the perfect energy to ask yourself, would you rather be right, or free; would you rather live in the tightness of clinging to an idea, or in the openness of trying out a new way; would you rather live life as something to logic your way through, or would you rather really be in your life with all the messiness that it may bring?

Before I go any farther, let me just say that there is nothing wrong with employing reason and logic as you move through life and make decisions - big or small. In fact, using our discernment is key in knowing what is true versus what is untrue, and what is truly meant for us versus what we wish were meant for us. The problem is that if we’re not careful, most of the time when we employ logic it is partially in an effort to create the desired outcome, which very often involves keeping the ego safe through a false sense of control. When used properly, the discerning mind points you in the direction of your soul’s next adventure versus keeping you from taking chances that could blow your heart and mind wide open.

Sagittarius (the adventure seeker) reminds us that it is important in life to take huge leaps of faith if we truly want to experience this existence in all its abundant glory. While we may be used to trying to figure something out down to the studs before taking action on whatever our soul is calling us to do, Sagittarius asks, “How can we truly ‘figure something out’ if we are unwilling to fully live the experience of it?” Sag is all about expanding our consciousness through really living in the world - not reading about it, or hearing about it. In Yoga, the most reliable type of knowledge is the type that can come only through experience, and experience can only lead us to the answers we seek if we give ourselves fully. Sagittarius is not a dip-your-toe-in-the-water-to-test-the-temperature kind of sign. Sagittarius is an I’ll-find-out-how-cold-it-really-is-by-jumping-in sign. Where in your life are you being overly cautious, where it may be better to give yourself with abandon?

Along with this, Lunar Eclipses are notorious for unearthing secrets or deep truths that have been left unsaid. Although it may not be leaping off a cliff, speaking truth can be terrifying and requires a great amount of faith. True to Sagittarius form, the more you stand in the truth that is beyond what the overthinking mind makes of it, the freer your soul becomes to step into all the abundance, joy and adventure that is meant for you. What truth are you not speaking that is holding you back? What tricks is the mind playing on you, and what impediments to happiness does that unchecked mind create in your life?

The mind is meant to serve the calling of the soul, and, as Bhakti yogis know, the calling of the soul can only be heard by tuning your inner ear to your heart.
