Lion’s Gate Portal
In numerology, the number 8 represents balance, power and limitlessness.
On August 8 (8/8), many astrologers and spiritualists believe that a cosmic portal opens, called the Lion’s Gate, during which time the star Sirius (the brightest start in the sky) is activated by the power of the Sun. Sirius is a fixed star that represents wealth, honor and spiritual growth, and as its power is supercharged by the main battery of our Solar System, the Sun, August 8-12 is considered to be a very auspicious time to set the intention for what you would like to manifest in your life. As August 8th is a double 8, and as this year also creates the number 8 (2+0+2+4), today is viewed as the most potent day for this work.
“Manifestation” has been a huge buzzword now since at least 2006 when the book The Secret made a huge splash in popular culture. Since then, as happens with many if not all nuanced practices, the idea of manifestation has been thinned out to the point that many believe that by writing out one’s desires, or envisioning them, or pulling Tarot cards about them, or just wishing really hard, their dreams will be fulfilled.
While some of these practices are absolutely helpful in truly manifesting whatever it is you are trying to bring forth, they often leave out the most important aspect of bringing something to fruition: understanding that your desires must be in service of something higher than only yourself.
And this is where the number 8 comes in — specifically it’s correlation with balance.
The balance associated with this number is not the work/life type of balance so often discussed, but rather the balance between the spiritual and the material.
When we manifest, we must fully understand and have gratitude for the fact that whatever comes our way is a gift from the Divine. It is not something we have created on our own, and it does not belong to us. It is given to us so that we may be of better service to the world — however large or small the scale. Manifest what allows you to be of greatest service.
We also must understand that God will give to us the version of what we are trying to call in that we can truly deal with in a responsible way. There is the saying that God only gives us what we can handle. This is true for both things that are unbelievably difficult and for things that bring forth the type of abundance we desire — whether that be money, love, spiritual insight etc.
Honoring this aspect of the Divine is the type of honor the star Sirius holds at its highest.
This speaks to the spiritual side of the material/spiritual balance of 8. On the material side, remember that everything is made of energy and that like is drawn to like. Basically, we must be able to truly feel the thing we are hoping to create. If you are calling in financial abundance, create a vision for yourself of what that would be, and then do your best to feel what it would feel like if that were already true. If you want to fall in love, envision finding your soulmate, and feel into how good it is to love and be loved.
Quantum Physics is revealing incredible truths that were once considered to be “woo-woo,” but that science is now proving to be true — namely that our thoughts and internal energetic patterns have a massive effect on the energy fields around us and on how we are truly able to create the future we seek.
As noted above, the number 8 is also associated with power. In this context, it is the power of commitment to the vision you pray to see made real and the power generated when something builds over a long period of time. It is also the internal power of being able to find gratitude for what is already present even if that is far from your ideal.
Manifestation work is not a one-and-done kind of situation. It requires continuous sincere effort, and these aspects are crucial for your ability to succeed.
