New Moon in Cancer

Today we are experiencing another new moon in Cancer just as we did one month ago. When we experience two new moons in the same sign a month apart with the first happening early in the sign and the second occurring towards the end, we call the second one a "Black Moon," and this only occurs every 2-3 years. It is some powerful energy to work on harnessing!

While there are similarities between today's new moon and the one we experienced at the end of June, there are some key differences as well. Planetarily, the new moon on June 21 was also a part of a full solar eclipse bringing with it themes of the unconscious self overshadowing the conscious self - ie things regarding our most tender feelings that we may have pushed away.

Today's new moon is right with the sun, but not covering it, and it is also in opposition with both Pluto and Saturn.

While the last full moon was about questioning the balance between work and home, this new moon, with both the sun and moon in cancer, asks us to look at how we consider ourselves as our forever home. How do you take care of your body as if it were the walls of your house? How do you take care of your own heart to make sure it's a place where you can take refuge much like you hope your home can be a place of peace? Is there some remodeling that needs to be done so that your body as your home truly reflects who you are now and what you need now? Basically, how are you taking care of yourself? How are you loving yourself? These questions are too important - especially in a time like this - to go unanswered.

With the new moon opposite Pluto and Saturn, there may also be a heaviness to the day. Both Pluto and Saturn are very powerful planets that really don't let us get away with anything. Pluto holds the energy of death and all that remains hidden, and Saturn brings a strong dose of reality.

Is the version of yourself you've been holding on to because it is recognizable and comfortable still you, or are you letting fear/anxiety/etc keep you from letting what needs to go go?

The moon opposite these signs asks us to take the chance of leaving what we have known for something that will ultimately be more fitting to who we are now.

Remember, a crab carries its home with it wherever it goes, and so do you. Act accordingly.
