New Moon in Virgo

How do you want to serve?

Today - Monday, September 6 - is a New moon in Virgo. It can feel like being in the darkest of soil where you may feel a bit lost without the guidance of any light, but it is also the place where we find the deepest nourishment for our growth.

Virgo, in its most exalted state, is all about service, abundance, practicality, discernment, organization and humility. In its more primitive state, the energy of Virgo is petty, critical, judgmental, nitpicky, self-deprecating and self-denying. As the New Moon is always an auspicious time to set an intention, may we all put sincere effort in intending to live in the more graceful aspects of this somewhat tricky sign.

In many mindfulness communities, working with our impulses towards mindsets of scarcity versus abundance has gained quite a bit of traction, and it is a perfect place to start for this Virgo New Moon because if we constantly feel like we don’t have enough, it is very difficult to break out of those parts of Virgo that need to critique in the name of self-protection. If we don’t feel the fullness and beauty of our own beings, we are far more likely to tear others down. If we don’t understand the constant and generous flow of reality, we become miserly with what we have and covetous of what we don’t. When we live in a place of scarcity, it is far more likely that we will push others away, and create unnecessary boundaries around our generosity in the name of protecting what we believe is ours or else it may be taken away. This also closes us off to new ways of being that could be far more liberating than living under the confines of only doing what we 100% know will work.

The New Moon is also opposite Neptune and trine Uranus. Anytime Uranus is trine the Moon, there is an extreme urge to express yourself and your emotions in what can sometimes be uncharacteristic for who you normally know yourself to be. But this doesn’t mean not to do it! With Neptune in the picture, however, tap into that discerning quality of Virgo to make sure that whatever it is you’re emotional about is real and true, and not a fantasy or delusion version of whatever it is you’re emotional about (good emotion or bad). Basically, before you scream that something is the worst or the best, check your perception.

A great mantra for today (and any day for those with strong Virgo in their charts) is: Whatever is meant for me will not miss me.

If we can really sink into that truth, it is far more easy to lean into what we can give just for the sake of giving versus giving for what we will get in return.
