New Moon in Sagittarius
Today is a New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius conjunct the planet Mercury. Along with this build up of planets in Sag (called a “stellium”), Mars is bringing energy and action to today’s astrology while Neptune is adding a bit of confusion and detrimental fantasy.
When there is a New Moon it means that the Sun and the Moon are in a relationship called a conjunction in which the energy of each planet informs the other. As the Sun is the ego-mind (the forefront of our consciousness) and the Moon is the emotional-mind (the unconscious), a conjunction of these two planets signifies ease and flow between what is happening on stage and what is going on behind the scenes. Rather than our will pointing in one direction while our desire pulls us somewhere else, today both are working towards the same goal. If we look to the sign in which this conjunction occurs, we fill out the picture even more by adding the qualities associated with the sign to how the instincts of the planets manifest.
As both the Sun and the Moon are in Sagittarius, all of the cosmic energy is lined up for us to go on a philosophical journey into whether we relate to life as a sojourn inward, or as simply an opportunity to see and acquire as many shiny, novel experiences as possible.
Sagittarius is know as the life-long learner, the deeply philosophical student of life, the adventurer and the wanderer (among many other things). Sagittarius is also know, however, of too often falling victim to the idea that the grass is greener anywhere other than where it is. This creates an unquenchable wanderlust that generally leaves Sagittarius always wanting more rather than learning how to be content and grateful for what has already been given. Because the planet Mercury (thinking and communication) is nestled in closely with the Sun and the Moon during this New Moon/Solar Eclipse, it is important to investigate how you think of yourself in regards to how you participate with the world and broad, worldly ideas. Is there something missing if external excitement isn’t just around every corner? Do you wander (physically or psychically) so as not to have to confront whatever is right in front of you? Is your greatest adventure discovering the truth of what you are, or is it being distracted from who you are?
With Mars (action, assertion, motivation, energy) in harmonious alignment to these three planets today, and with the Solar Eclipse forcing the issue, there is a strong cosmic push to tackle these inquiries.
One thing to keep in mind today is that Neptune (dreams, fantasy, illusion, delusion, escape) is in a difficult relationship to the stellium in Sagittarius warning us to be cautious against thinking that we have it all figured out, or that anyone else does for that matter! Be careful about who you put on a pedestal as this is just the escapist mind bring to come up with a reason why you too can’t do the work to become however great you see that person to be.
