New Moon in Aries & Total Solar Eclipse
As the light of the Sun is blocked by the Moon moving between that great star and our Earth during a Solar Eclipse, we find ourselves playing in the shadowlands where what can only be seen in the dark begins to shine. It is a moment of stillness. Of Awe-someness. It is an opportunity to see the light that is always behind the shadow.
This New Moon and eclipse are in the sign of Aries as are the planets Venus and Mercury (in retrograde) and the asteroid, Chiron. This is a huge build up of energy in a sign that is associated with our own childhoods, how we assert ourselves, our brazen behavior (both helpful and harmful), and how we take the lead.
Venus signifies what we love, Mercury indicates the contents and movement of the mind (in it’s retrograde state much of that energy is turned inward), Chiron shows us our deepest wounds, the Sun embodies our sense of self, and the Moon reflects our innermost needs — the softness of our underbelly.
With all of these energies in Aries, it is a wonderful time to reflect on our own ability to assert our needs, desires and thoughts. Within that reflection, this communion of celestial bodies can also show us how our inner child is still trying to manage its wounds, which is made visible through our propensity towards being overly aggressive or suffocatingly weak in our attempts to heal whatever may still feel flayed open — even if that cut oozes only in the darkest recesses of our minds.
All this Aries energy asks us to consider which battles we are fighting and where is that fight coming from? Are we simply picking the biggest Ram to throw ourselves into over and over in an effort to prove something to ourselves (a falsely guided effort to heal ourselves), or are we taking charging against something that is harming ourselves and others? One way stems from a sense of something missing from who we are. The other comes from standing for the goodness and freedom of all beings everywhere. The more healed we are, the more we are able to pick those battles that actually need our effort.
